Hiya ade,

> If there is a recommended place to stay I'd be keen to know.

ignore the slight editing, my browser is set to some weird setting or other today...

At the moment, there isn't a set location for the Con, as we have only been prepping for 1 week. (my information may be out of date, as i only saw cj on (friday? think it was friday.)

My reccommendation is that if there are a batch of you coming from the same area/country/private universe, then you source accommodation together, to make your lives easier.

Cheltenham is not insanely big, like London or birmingham, and has a *reasonable* bus service. I live out by the motorway end of town, and can walk into the town centre in about 1 hour. (it's about 3.5-4.5 miles, depending on route)

We'll post some suitable locations if we can find them, I'm assuming. Smile

Seeking a good place to stay

I will be looking for comfortable accomodation fairly close to the gaming venue. Probably a B&B that can provide two single rooms and safe parking. Suggestions welcome!

Hi Sheila

I shall personally make enquiries and check out secure parking. Certainly there are many lovely hotels and B&B - the location is close to the town centre, but GL51 9HG is the postcode of the house immediately opposite - my old one in fact!

I shall be updating the accomodation information very soon, and will pm you some suggestions.

OK, Pitt Murmann (pm) has set up an excellent wiki for Grand Tribunal 2007 at http://grandtribunal.ekkaia.org/page/Accomodation -- well that goes direct to the Accomodation page. I have made a few recommendations, mainly of the more expensive end: oddly several places appear fully booked -- which Festival is in town that week? Not horseracing anyway!

OK, on the cheaper side, there are several smaller hotels in town,
and for those with access to vehicles, there are even some inns in the villages. Smile
[not sure I'd reccommend doing the full LARP bit to get the room, but you never know]
BTW, most of the villages are about 2+ miles at most from the site.
Try googling for suitable locations in Cheltenham, I found about a dozen B&B style sites within 4 miles of the venue, and I didn't really dig too deep.

Also do check out the accommodation already posted on the wiki -- and I will be updating every week till the event!

Busy hotels

I called my preferred hotel today and was told that our weekend is in the middle of the second most important racing event of the year. Hence they only had two, very expensive, rooms left.

I suggest that people book up as soon as they can, since accommodation is probably going to be hard to come by.

This is bizarre. Before selecting the date I actually checked the Cheltenham Racecourse site, and found nothing -- I even commented upon it. However Sheila is clearly right, and this is a nightmare. Too late to change the date, and time for us to start arranging accomodation for everyone. I am making a new "news iten" later today, so I will drw this to everyones attention...

Delayed my announcement till monday evening again while I check with the racecourse and potential hotels. I still don't understand how I managed ot end up on a NH meeting week - I specifically checked against this very possibility!

Help with finding accommodation

I called the Cheltenham tourist information's accommodation service this morning. Most places in the town have a 3-night minimum booking at race time, and prices go up too. The kind lady (Moira) found me somewhere about 7 miles south of Cheltenham, but they only had 3 rooms left and I booked two of them. I told her about the convention and mentioned there would be others seeking accommodation. You can call her on 01242 522878 (+44 242 522878 from outside the UK).

OK! Thanks again Sheila!

I think the best way to approach this is for people to email me individually and for us t help find suitable accommodation. I'll convene a committee meeting tonight and organise the registration forms, and we will discuss how best to help.

If anyone wants to start they can email me at cj@falster23.freeserve.co.uk and tell me the date they will need accommodation for.

I have now updated the wiki and created a special thread on this forum for people planning to take advantage of the ridiculously cheap Stonehouse Travelodge, so we can organise transport.
